Alexis Sanchez could be staying at Arsenal despite Manchester City’s desperate attempts to sign him.

  • Reports from Chile suggest that Alexis will not be leaving this summer
  • Manchester City were confident of getting a deal done
  • Bayern Munich have dropped their interest

For weeks now we’ve seen nothing but reports of Alexis’ imminent departure from the club.

With no agreement reached on a contract extension and with Manchester City ready and waiting, it seemed inevitable that a move would happen whether Arsenal liked it or not.

But there could be some hope for Arsenal, as Chilean journalist Juan Luis, who works for El Filtrador, tweeted last night:

The tweet reads “Alexis Sanchez does not move from Arsenal”, which is a refreshingly different sentiment to what other Chilean journalists have reported.

Nobody is quite sure how reliable this is, or if this is news or just Luis’ opinion, but it could be positive news.

Arsenal have been adamant that Alexis will not be sold to a Premier League rival, despite reports of City being confident of signing him.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have seemingly pulled out of the race as their president Uli Hoeness has said that they will not spend crazy money on players.

There’s a risk of Alexis leaving for free next season should he stay, but in the short-term, it’d be very beneficial for Arsenal to keep hold of him to challenge on all four fronts.

And maybe some good signings and a successful season might convince him to stay after all. Who knows?
