Chile legend Ivan Zamorano has said that Alexis Sanchez must leave Arsenal if he is to fulfil his ambition of winning the Champions League.

  • Zamorano claims that Alexis, “above all”, wants to win the Champions League
  • He could leave Arsenal this summer, with Manchester City the most willing buyer
  • He probably wouldn’t win the Champions League with City

With speculation about Alexis’ future at fever pitch, Chilean legend Ivan Zamorano has pitched in with his opinion.

Speaking to SFR Sport, Zamorano, who scored 34 goals for Chile, said:“I think Alexis knows very well what he has to do. He’s a guy who has goals and ambitions, they’re fundamental to making a choice. I think he likes to win, reports ESPN.

“What he wants, above all, is to win the Champions League, and I don’t think he’ll have that possibility at Arsenal. He must know that he will be more useful in a bigger team.

“But it’s his decision, his personal choice. Whatever happens, Alexis will be at the level he deserves to be and which he must achieve.”

It’s true that Alexis wouldn’t be able to win the Champions League with Arsenal next season, for the simple fact that Arsenal won’t be in the competition. Should he move to Bayern Munich or Juventus, two clubs who have recently made finals, he’d have a better chance of winning it.

However, with Manchester City looking his most likely destination, it’d be difficult to use the Champions League as a justification. City’s Champions League record is only marginally better than Arsenal’s, and they’re no closer to winning the competition.
