The futures of Jon Toral, Dan Crowley and Chuba Akpom look to be in doubt after they were excluded from Arsenal’s pre-season tour squad.

  • Youth trio was left behind despite Arsenal taking seven youngsters with them
  • Akpom has featured regularly for Arsenal in pre-season, but has yet to make an impact on loan
  • Crowley and Toral face tough midfield competition

Arsenal usually take a host of young players with them when they go on tour in order to fill the gaps in the squad. Dan Crowley, Jon Toral and Chuba Akpom have all featured in such tours in the past, but have found themselves left behind this time.

This could suggest that their time at the club is coming to an end. Akpom has been prolific for Arsenal in pre-season games over the past three years, but has struggled at first team level.

Despite several loan spells, Akpom has yet to make a positive impact. With two much younger strikers in Eddie Nketiah and Donyell Malen in the squad, it looks like he’s run out of time to convince Arsene Wenger he’s ready.

Jon Toral, on the other hand, has had productive loans at Birmingham and Rangers, but could struggle to get into the Arsenal team ahead of other midfielders. He’s expected to move on without making a single first-team appearance for Arsenal.

Dan Crowley impressed on loan at Go Ahead Eagles in the second half of last season, but his situation remains uncertain due to his contract running down. Like Toral, he could struggle for first-team games ahead of other midfielders and could look for games elsewhere.
