Five former Arsenal players have been included in Barcelona’s 15 worst signings of all time.

Somewhat hilariously, the Daily Star have included five Arsenal players in Barcelona’s 15 worst signings of all time.

5. Marc Overmars

Despite being brilliant at Ajax, where he’s now director of football, and Arsenal, when Overmars signed for Barca in 2000, he failed to replicate the success he’d enjoyed previously in his career.

Barca paid £25m for Overmars, who went on to spend four years in La Liga, making 97 appearances and scoring 15 goals.

4. Thomas Vermaelen

Arsenal selling Verm’ to Barca was probably one of the best pieces of business the Gunners have ever managed to pull off.

The centre-back signed for the La Liga club in 2014 for £15m.

He went on to make just 11 league appearances for them over two years before being loaned out to Roma.

3. Emmanuel Petit

Petit left Arsenal for Barcelona with Overmars in 2000 for £7m but only ended up staying for one year before signing for Chelsea.

He made just 23 appearances for the Catalans.

2. Alex Song

Arsenal managed to get another £15m for Song, who signed for Barca in 2012, making 39 appearances in total and being loaned out to West Ham for two seasons.

In 2016, they sold him to Rubin Kazan.

1. Alexander Hleb

Hleb has always admitted that leaving Arsenal for Barca in 2008 was one of the worst mistakes of his career.

Despite being a key player for Arsenal, his career plummeted after he moved to Spain, something he never recovered from.
