With the 2017-18 Premier League fixtures announced, Arsenal know who they’ll be facing after their Europa League excursions. It seems their upcoming European campaign might damage their domestic hopes.

  • Arsenal will be away from home after five of their six Europa Leauge group matches
  • This includes trips to Chelsea and Manchester City

Arsenal will be used to tough away trips after European nights, but the Thursday-Sunday combo that the Europa League offers will be a new and challenging experience for them.

As it stands, Arsenal will be away from home after five of their six Europa League group stage fixtures. With plenty of miles to cover and short recovery periods, Arsenal could go into these games with a hangover.

Arsenal will travel to face Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton, Burnley and Southampton just two days after a Europa League game. Even with a week’s rest, none of those are easy trips.

Chelsea, City and, if they qualify, Everton will have also played a mid-week European fixture. However, Chelsea and City would still benefit from potentially having two days’ extra rest than Arsenal.

Arsenal’s one home game after a Europa League game is at home to newly promoted Brighton. It looks easy on paper but we’ve seen plenty of teams slip up in these games after playing on a Thursday night.
