Ex-Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen could be leaving Barcelona to return to the Premier League.

  • Vermaelen joined Arsenal from Ajax in 2009
  • He left for Barcelona for £17m in 2014
  • Injuries have damaged his Barcelona career
  • Southampton and Watford are interested

Vermaelen joined Arsenal from Ajax in 2009 and quickly won over the Arsenal supporters with his tough and aggressive defending and surging forward runs.

However, he suffered injuries towards the end of his Arsenal career and lost his form. Hence it was such a surprise that, in the summer of 2014, Barcelona were willing to spend £17m on him.

Injuries have continued to haunt Vermaelen and has prevented him nailing a first team spot at Barcelona.

It now seems Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for the Belgian.

Southampton and Watford are said to be interested in bringing him back to the Premier League, while there is also interest from Serie A side Torino.
