Spurs are determined to sign Porto full-back Ricardo Pereira as a potential replacement for Manchester City-bound Kyle Walker.

  • Pereira was linked with Arsenal last January, but Wenger denied any interest
  • Spurs could pay £22m release clause to sign him

The right back, who spent the season on loan with Ligue 1 side Nice, was linked with Arsenal last January as a potential replacement for the injured Mathieu Debuchy.

However, Arsene Wenger denied any interest and that was the end of it. Nevertheless, Hector Bellerin’s potential move to Barcelona could see the Gunners renew interest in the Porto man this summer.

Now it seems Spurs are interested in the right back and could part with £22m – his release clause – to sign him. Pereira is a highly regarded talent and has attracted interest from the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Porto could be keen to sell due their need to meet Financial Fair Play regulations. Arsenal could capitalise given they will be losing Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy and will need competition at right-back regardless.

Pereira could have been one option, but with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain adapting to the wing-back role and Gabriel able to cover at right back, Arsenal will feel they have enough options in the squad.
