Tony Adams has admitted that he finds watching present day Tottenham ‘distressing’ as they remind him of the Arsenal side that he used to play in.

Last season, Tottenham finished above Arsenal for the first time since 1995. They played like a close-nit team with attractive, passing football, and their stars stepped up on almost every occasion.

Most importantly, they played for Mauricio Pochettino, which contrasted with Arsene Wenger’s side, who looked as if they would rather be anywhere else.

Adams, who’s recently spat some unnecessarily scathing remarks in Wenger’s direction, has hailed the current Spurs squad, pointing out how they almost remind him of Arsenal back in the day. However, he’s unsure how their temporary move to Wembley while they build their new stadium will impact them next season.

“The way they’ve gone about things is very Arsenal,” the ex-centre-back told the Evening Standard.

“That’s more distressing than anything. The Arsenal fans would say that too.

“The boys look like they want to play for their club, they’re scoring goals and playing well. They’re highly motivated.

“It’ll be interesting to see how they do at Wembley, it’ll be a big transition and I think they might come off the pace a bit.

“They’ll find a lot of neutrals there. They don’t have enough fans. It was the same with Arsenal, though we had more fans then than they do know, we drew in a few drifters for our Wembley games (when Arsenal played Champions League home games there in 1998 and 1999).

“Their real fans will be rattling around there, quite a way from a pitch. Away from White Hart Lane it won’t be a fortress and I think they’ll struggle to get points there. Maybe we’ll get fourth!”
