The Mirror have suggested five players Arsenal could sign this summer should they lose Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.

  • Alexis could join Manchester City
  • The Mirror exclude Lemar and Mahrez
  • Not all of their options are realistic

This summer, Arsenal could face the very difficult problem of replacing a forward who scored 30 times last season and chipped in with 13 assists. With Alexis yet to sign a contract extension, Manchester City are becoming more and more confident of signing him.

While Arsenal won’t want to sell the player, it would be wise for them to have some replacements in mind. The Mirror has kindly listed five players they think Arsenal should go for, although not all of them are realistic.

RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, Real Madrid’s Isco and Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco were all named.

Forsberg has been linked with Arsenal this summer but Leipzig have no interest in selling. The likes of Insigne and Mertens have recently just signed new contracts with Napoli and have no intention of leaving. Likewise, Isco is expected to renew with Real Madrid.

As for Carrasco, Atletico Madrid are under a transfer ban, and will not sell any player without being able to sign a replacement.

Strangely, the list doesn’t include Thomas Leamr or Riyad Mahrez, two players Arsenal actually have an interest in and could sign. In any case, one would hope Arsenal have somebody lined-up should the unthinkable happen.
