Serie A expert, James Horncastle, claims that Alexis Sanchez doesn’t believe in Arsenal’s ‘project’ and will almost certainly leave this summer.

Contrary to what Arsene Wenger claims, Horncastle is convinced that Sanchez, who has just one year left on his Arsenal contract, will leave this summer in order to win trophies elsewhere.

“I think Sanchez is almost certain to go,” Horncastle told The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast.

“Sanchez is making a point that he doesn’t believe in the Arsenal project.

“He doesn’t see them competing and wants to leave to win a trophy.”

The Chilean has reportedly turned down a new £280k-per-week contract with the Gunners amid rumours that he could he signing for Bayern Munich. However, Wenger insists that neither he or Mesut Ozil are going to be sold this summer.

“This summer, first of all, they will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contracts,” Wenger told BeIN Sports recently.

“You cannot weaken the club and weaken the team. You want to strengthen the team. Unless you find a player of the same calibre. If they want absolutely to leave.

“I believe at the moment we are not on that front. We are just focused on keeping the team together and see how to strengthen the team.

“When you sign a contract somewhere, you commit to give your best until the end of the last day of your contract. I would say why should they not give their best?”

While we don’t know if Wenger’s just playing hardball over Sanchez’s asking price and will in fact sell him for the right price this summer, we don’t know.

The Frenchman has to weigh up what could be worse: selling Arsenal’s best player for a reported £49m now and not being able to find an adequate replacement, or allowing him to potentially sign for a rival for free next year.
