Robert Pires believes that it’s ‘very important’ for Arsene Wenger to buy some new players over the summer in order to build a squad that can complete his first objected next season: win the Premier League.

  • Pires reckons Arsenal will be stronger next season
  • Believes that Wenger needs to buy more players
  • Acknowledges fan split

Pires, who is still in close contract with Wenger and regularly trains at London Colney alongside the current Arsenal squad, has pointed out that while he realises the manager’s decision to stay wasn’t an easy one, he needs to add to this current team if the Gunners are going to have any hope of winning the Premier League.

“I think Arsenal will be stronger for next season,” the Invincible told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Now it’s very important to buy players and build a team to win the Premier League.

“I think the decision [Wenger staying] is not easy because they had some trouble during the season with some fans, so now we need to build a new team for next season.

“Some fans are split but the message is to be passionate for next season because the first objective will be to win the Premier League.”

Arsenal finished fifth in the league last season, missing out on Champions League football and running the risk of pushing the club’s biggest stars towards the exit.

While Gooners have mostly made their peace with Wenger staying for another two years, changes are still needed.

Wenger will (hopefully) understand that if these aren’t made, next season could be even harder.
