Chelsea are thinking about making an ambitious offer for Kylian Mbappé in the coming weeks, according to a recent report.

La Liga champions Real Madrid and Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal have been heavily linked with the wonderkid’s signature, though any possible move is likely to break the world-record transfer fee if completed.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea want to bolster their attacking options and certainly have the financial firepower to battle the aforementioned duo for Mbappé. Diego Costa is increasingly close to a summer exit, while Romelu Lukaku’s future is uncertain amid reports he could be on the way back to Stamford Bridge as part of a lucrative return.

In the latest set of developments, it is believed that manager Antonio Conte is scheduled to have a meeting with the 18-year-old after this current international break.

Chelsea have already made clear their eagerness to back Conte’s decisions in the transfer market and they could use Michy Batshuayi as part of their approach to entice Monaco into selling.

Monaco, who won last season’s Ligue 1 title, have already made clear their intention to retain Mbappé for at least another year or two. However, the decision is up to him and they could be intrigued by the prospect of signing Batshuayi, who proved himself in Ligue 1 prior to his £33m move from Marseille.

It’s easy to forget that Batshuayi flourished in France before his big-money move to Chelsea, and if used as part of the Blues’ attempts to sign Mbappe, it could be increasingly tough for Monaco to reject their advances. (Picture source: Getty Images)

Batshuayi netted 23 goals and created ten assists in all competitions during the 2015/16 campaign and already has two years’ experience in France. If offered as part of the deal, it’d make it harder to reject but equally, lower Chelsea’s financial outlay for Mbappé.

A fee between €80-90m as well as Batshuayi could tempt Monaco into selling their prized asset, though they don’t need the money. Both Mbappé and Michy are keen to play on a weekly basis to impress their respective countries ahead of next summer’s World Cup tournament in Russia. It’ll be interesting to see how this story develops, especially given the level of interest in Mbappé from Europe’s top sides.
