Olivier Giroud has said he is jealous of team-mates Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil.

  • Giroud is jealous of his World Cup winning team-mates
  • He dreams of winning the World Cup with France

Mertesacker and Ozil were a part of Germany’s World Cup winning squad in 2014, beating Giroud’s France in the quarter-finals.

The Frenchman, like many footballers, dreams of winning the World Cup one day and hopes to be a part of France’s squad in Russia 2018.

“My ultimate dream for Les Bleus? To win the World Cup,” he said. “I am so jealous of Ozil and Mertesacker in the locker room of Arsenal.”

Giroud came close to achieving international success last year in Euro 2016. His three goals in the tournament helped France get to the final, but they were defeated by an extra-time winner from Portugal’s Eder.

Arsenal have a history of players who were successful at international level.

A number of France’s 1998 World Cup winning squad, including Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit and Thierry, played for Arsenal, while Cesc Fabregas helped Spain to success in Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. Former Arsenal player Lukas Podolski and current player Shkodran Mustafi were also part of Germany’s winning squad in 2014.
