Mesut Ozil has revealed that he’d be open to a return to Schalke one day.

  • Ozil spoke to Turkish media about his future
  • Said he would welcome a return to Schalke
  • Ozil has 12 months remaining on his current deal

Speaking to the Funke Media Group, Ozil said that he wasn’t considering a move right now, but that he would like to return to Schalke one day.

“My family would be very happy about a return,” he said. “Schalke is my absolute favourite club, I’m still a big fan. After all, I grew up with Schalke.

Ozil has 12 months remaining on his contract and, unlike Alexis Sanchez, doesn’t seem to have many clubs lining up to sign him.

He’s been vocal about how comfortable he is at Arsenal and seems open to signing an extension.

A return to Schalke one day wouldn’t be surprising. Ozil grew up near the club and came through its academy before he moved to Werder Bremen.

Ozil has also been open to a move to Turkey one day. It seems more likely that Ozil will run his contract down with Arsenal than try to force a move to another big club in Europe.
