Ozil, who has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer, has spoken about the importance of the team getting a solid pre-season under their belt, suggesting that he’ll be part of said team once the new term starts.

“It is really good to have pre-season with the team, in my career it has always been like that. If you play at a big tournament, especially with Germany, you really miss pre-season,” the 28-year-old told Arsenal Player.

“Two years ago we went to Singapore and it was a nice experience to see the city and the fans, and to train how we do in Sydney. So I am excited to do the same in Australia. I can’t wait to go there.”

Arsenal visit Australia this summer where they face Sydney FC on 13 July and Western Sydney Wanderers two days later.

Ozil is currently enjoying a holiday with friends in Malibu after a difficult season with Arsenal. The Gunners won the FA Cup but finished fifth, and the German international received unfair criticism for most of the campaign, despite being far from the failure the British media painted him as.

With just one year left on his current Arsenal deal, speculation over his future is rife. However, he’s always maintained that he loves London, and he’s obviously planning on returning to the club for pre-season, which suggests that he’s staying.
