Kylian Mbappe has said that winning the Champions League is a bigger obsession for him than winning the Ballon d’Or.

  • Mbappe is wanted by several big clubs around Europe
  • Real Madrid and Liverpool believe Champions League football can convince him
  • Arsenal could miss due to not being able to offer Champions League football

The comments could be a blow to Arsenal’s chances of signing the 18-year-old, as they suggest he’ll only be interested in a club who can challenge for the Champions League.

“The Champions League is a dream, a competition that everyone wants to win and that only a minority can win – the most important are the titles,” he said to Telefoot.

“That would be much more of an obsession for me than the Ballon d’Or, for example. I want to touch the stars and, when you dream, you do not dream of playing the middle of the table or maintaining it.”

Arsenal’s lack of Champions League football next season hasn’t deterred them from attempting to sign a number of big-money targets. They believe that they can convince Mbappe with other promises.

However, with competition from the likes of Real Madrid, it seems Champions League football will be a major factor in determining who gets to sign Mbappe.

The Monaco striker has his choice of clubs this summer and it’s becoming apparent there’s nothing Arsenal can offer him that he can’t get else where.
