Arsenal now have a clear shot at Alexandre Lacazette after Antoine Griezmann signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid.

  • Atletico’s transfer ban menat Griezmann could not leave this summer
  • Lacazette had been set to sign as a potential replacement for Griezmann
  • Arsenal can move in and sign the striker now that the Atletico deal is dead

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who believe Atletico’s situation has given Arsenal hope.

Griezmann seemed to be edging towards a move to Manchester United this summer but Atletico’s transfer ban has killed any chance of that happening.

As Atletico are unable to sign a replacement until January 2018, Griezmann has decided to stay in Spain and has signed a new contract.

Atletico had lined up Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette as a replacement, but that move also doesn’t seem to be happening.

This give Arsenal’s a clear opportunity to sign the striker, as there’ll be less competition.

One potential stumbling block that still remains is Arsenal’s lack of Champions League football next season. Should a club in the Champions League come along and register interest, Arsenal may have a tough time convincing Lacazette to join them.
