Marco Asensio is very settled at Real Madrid and won’t be leaving any time soon despite links with a move away.

  • Asensio was linked with Arsenal this summer
  • He’ll sign a new contract with a massive release clause
  • He’s very happy at Madrid

Arsenal were being linked with a move for Asensio this summer, but the Spaniard is very happy at Madrid.

Arsenal’s chances of signing the attacking midfielder were always slim, as Zinedine Zidane sees him an essential player for the future.

Speaking to Marca, he said, “He [Zidane] told me keep working because the opportunities would come. I had the chance to play in important games at the end of the season.

“I had a chat with the manager and he told me I was going to stay. That was a relief to me. He was confident that I would have minutes during the season. It gave me a lot of peace of mind.”

Asensio is expected to sign a new contract with Real Madrid that will have a massive £309m release clause.

The clause is indicative of how highly Madrid rate him and their intention of not selling to anybody.

He struggled for consistent first team football during the first half of last season, but received more opportunities as the season went.

He has admitted that it was a difficult period, but he had received assurances from the manager that he was in his plans.
