Arsenal were hoping to finalise the signing of Barcelona’s Arda Turan, but the player’s agent has refuted claims that the Turkish international is on his way to the Emirates.

According to Merca Futbol, Turan was a transfer target for Arsenal as a result of a disappointing season at Barcelona. The Turkish midfielder struggled for regular playing time and was rumoured to be seeknig an exit.

The 30-year-old was considered to be a top transfer target for Arsenal with manager Arsene Wenger looking to build a title challenging squad for the next season. But the player’s agent Ahmet Bulut recently revealed Turan wouldn’t be leaving the Camp Nou.

“Arda is not going anywhere. Barcelona’s directors are happy with him,” said Bulut to AS, reports Metro.

“We haven’t spoken to any club about a transfer. The stories that have come out in the media that he will be leaving have annoyed Arda.

“And nor has it gone down well with board members at the club – Arda Turan will see out his contract. He will stay at Barca until 2020.”

With a new two-year contract and the backing of the board, Wenger is believed to have around £165m at his disposal to make significant improvements to his side. Turan is rated at around £26m, but Bulut’s comments suggest a deal is a long way from happening.

Since his arrival at Camp Nou from Atletico Madrid, the Turkish midfielder has played a secondary role in the team and has become frustrated by the lack of opportunities.

Despite largely being a substitute, Arda Turan has made a decent impact in the team, scoring 13 goals and making seven assists in 30 appearances in all competitions.
