According to a recent report, both Arsenal and Everton are interested in Charlton’s teenage defender Ezri Konza and have sent scouts to track his progress at the u20 World Cup.

Konza, 19, was called up late to the England squad and met up with his team-mates in South Korea two weeks ago. Despite this though, the youngster is still waiting for his opportunity to play in the tournament, having watched from the bench as his compatriots progressed to the quarter-finals.

U20 manager Paul Simpson has opted to select Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori (previously on-loan at Brighton) and Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry as his centre-back pairing from the start of the competition, though it’s likely that Konsa will step in if deemed necessary.

Konsa made 39 appearances across all competitions for Charlton last season in a range of different positions. Being deployed at right-back, in central defence and central midfield have allowed the youngster to enjoy playing on a regular basis under Karl Robinson’s management.

Versatility is always an attractive attribute for youngsters and Konsa is no different.

He signed a new three-year deal back in March and will undoubtedly be keen to continue playing regularly next season, though that contract extension could just be a smart way of increasing his market value with interested suitors scouting the teenager’s performances.

Having won the club’s Young Player of the Year award last season, his international call-up was no surprise.

Everton did business with the Addicks to sign Ademola Lookman for £11m in January and could try to persuade them once more, though if Arsenal’s interest is genuine, it’s likely that he’d be loaned back to Charlton for the 2017/18 campaign or move elsewhere on a season-long loan deal to continue earning valuable experience in England as opposed to playing u23 football.
