Arsenal are interested in the Southampton centre back but face competition from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

  • Van Dijk is in high demand after strong season with Southampton
  • Southampton are looking for £50m
  • Liverpool reportedly found an agreement with the player but this seems to be untrue

According to the Daily Mail, Virgil van Dijk is a target for Arsenal this summer as they look to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League.

The Dutchman was having a strong season with Southampton before an ankle ligament injury cut it short. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have also been heavily linked with him.

Southampton have slapped a £50m price tag on van Dijk, which could put clubs off. The player signed a six-year contract last season, which means the Saints will be in no hurry to sell.

Arsenal’s pursuit of the player could depend on the future of Laurent Koscielny.

Koscielny was the subject of interest from Marseille towards the end of the season. Arsenal have no interest in selling the player this summer, but a recurring Achilles problem may cut into his game time next season.

Arsenal may step-up their interest in a centre back should the Frenchman suffer from more injuries.
