Joel Campbell’s agent is expecting the player to return to Arsenal this summer although he has left the door open for yet another move.

The Costa Rican, who is marrying his girlfriend, Maria Fernada Mora, in Iglesia de Pozos de Santa Ana back in his homeland today (Saturday) at 7pm (2am UK), is focused only on that but his agent has been speaking to the press.

Confirming that the player will return to Arsenal, his representative told Diario Diez, “At Sporting, I think in general, it has been a difficult season for the club and at the end of the season we saw less playing time as a player on loan, it is normal for the club to favour the players who belong to them.”

Campbell’s rep then added that there was the ‘possibility’ of another club being interested in him.

Joel had a falling out with the Sporting management at the start of the year and saw his playing time practically vanish as a result.

His contract with Arsenal runs until 2018 and it’s hard to see how he has any sort of future at the club. When he was given a chance he actually impressed to the surprise of many, but Arsene Wenger could not be convinced to give him any sort of long-term role in the first team, and off on loan he went again.

With just one year left on his contract Arsenal need to seriously consider selling him this summer or letting him leave on a free next.

Getting him to sign a new deal is all very well and good, but when you are subsidising the wages of a player for six years who has no future at the club, what’s the point?
