2. Costa and the buyout clause
According to the Guardian, Arsenal attempted to sign Diego Costa back in 2013 while the Brazilian-born Spanish international was at Atletico Madrid but opted to complete a deal for Yaya Sanogo instead.
The prolific Chelsea forward could have been an Arsenal man had the Gunners not been overly cautious about a £30m buyout clause. Sanogo’s career has gone in the opposite direction.
