Contrary to what the British media have been reporting, L’Equipe are not claiming that Arsene Wenger is definitely set to sign a one-year extension with Arsenal.

  • Wenger’s contract runs out at end of season
  • Previously rumoured to be signing two-year extension
  • L’Equipe claim one year is most likely scenario

The French outlet have merely pointed out that, given the circumstances, Wenger signing a one-year deal is the most likely scenario.

They’ve not claimed that the boss is definitely extending his contract by one year.

The manager wouldn’t have the freedom he does at Arsenal elsewhere and, according to GFFN‘s interpretation of the original report, the board are keen on him staying considering that he consistently keeps their accounts in the green.

After losing 10-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich this season, Wenger apparently questioned whether he was actually wanted at Arsenal or not and, while it does look as if he’ll stay in north London, it seems that it probably won’t be the two-year deal that was previously reported.

L’Equipe also claim that the Arsenal board could be prepared to hand Wenger this warchest that everyone keeps talking about.

The Frenchman allegedly wants to sign a ‘world class’ striker and central defender.
