Arsene Wenger met with the press on Tuesday morning ahead of his side’s game against Southampton on Wednesday and seemed to put an end to the talk of anyone coming in as director of football or any behind-the-scenes restructuring.

The boss was asked about the possibility of a director of football coming in and he was quite scathing in his assessment of the role, saying he never understood what the point of it was and “I don’t know what that means. I never could understand.” This came after he went “No, no, no, no, no”. He also asked do they stand in the middle of the road directing players.

Wenger was then pressed about the rumoured restructure and if it will take place to which he replied he is the manager of Arsenal and “as long as I am manager I will decide what happens on the technical front and that’s it”.

And that ended the press conference…

When asked earlier in the presser about Lucas’s future at Arsenal Wenger also replied “I would love to keep him…if I am manager next season.”

He then added that the pair will sit down in the summer and decide what’s best for both and if Arsenal can offer Lucas the time on the pitch he deserves.
