Stewart Robert has – surprise, surprise – gone on another rant about Arsene Wenger.

  • Robson was at Arsenal from 1978 – 1987
  • Was sacked from Arsenal TV in 2012
  • Has slated Wenger for years
  • Claims Wenger’s not a football manager

Despite the former Arsenal midfielder never actually working under Wenger, Robson seems to think he knows a lot about him.

Each of Robson’s rants are directed squarely at the Frenchman and always involve him referencing some unknown ‘source’. He also knows ‘someone’ who works with Wenger who is feeding him this information.

During his latest attack, Robson went on talkSPORT to accuse Wenger of being more of a sports scientist and dietitian than a football manager.

“I know one or two coaches who have worked under Wenger at Arsenal, and they say no tactical work takes place. The players I know say no tactical work takes place,” he said.

“Arsene Wenger is almost more like a sports scientist and dietitian rather than a coach.

“When I talk to old players, I ask if Wenger taught them anything about the game and they say, ‘not really but he’s a great sports scientist and dietitian’.

“That’s not being a coach! That’s why Arsenal have had their problems, that’s why they haven’t won the Premier League for quite some while, because the technical work – which Wenger has insisted is all down to him – isn’t good enough.”

I’m sure Wenger’s three titles and six FA Cups with Arsenal say otherwise.

Robson’s bitterness towards Wenger isn’t anything new.

In 2012, he was sacked from Arsenal TV for his views.

He labelled Wenger a ‘dictator’, saying, the boss had “a lack of tactical nous which is costing points every year.”

“I’m more embarrassed with the way Arsene Wenger conducts himself these days,” Robson said.

“He doesn’t do any tactical stuff on the side of the field, they tell me he doesn’t do too much work on the defensive side in training, yet he’ll have a rant at everybody else.

“There’s backroom staff that will challenge his decisions – Steve Bould, Neil Banfield, Terry Burton – but they can’t challenge him because he’s a dictator in many ways.

“Why isn’t Steve Bould doing more coaching? Because – time and time again – I don’t think Arsene Wenger sees the danger. When the team are making mistakes he doesn’t rectify them, and the reason he doesn’t rectify them is he doesn’t know what the mistakes are.

“In my view it was time up three or four years ago. The fans have stuck by him, they always say ‘in Arsene we trust’, that can’t be the case any more.  Tactically Arsenal are all over the place at times, they’re under-prepared defensively, and if you have that you’re always going to lose several football games in a season and not win trophies.”

Sound familiar? The man’s a broken record.
