Arsene Wenger admitted in an interview with BeIN Sports that he visited Mbappe personally at his house last summer to try and bring him to the Emirates.

The 18-year-old is a summer transfer target for many European giants with Real Madrid and Manchester City publicly declaring interest in addition to Wenger.

Last summer Arsenal came very close to signing young Frenchman as Arsene Wenger went to see him personally to convince him that his future lay at the Emirates.

The deal eventually broke down when Kylian decided to extend his current contract with Monaco until 2019.

Wenger said: “The player would tell you that I was at his home last year to try to get him here.

“Because he was at the end of his contract but Monaco managed to keep him and the decision was very, very tight.

“But I could understand it as well because he was educated there and at the end decided to stay there.”

As the story unfolded, Arsenal fans can rightly be very disappointed.

Just last summer, Mbappe could have been one of the best bargain captures in the history of the club, and with his price tag rising to an astronomical amount of €110 million, as the media report, Arsene must be pulling out his hair.

Mbappe is being dubbed as the next big thing in Europe, with the youngster having a tremendous season at Monaco, scoring 24 goals in 39 appearances. That’s before you even mention his ability to set up his teammates, as he has also made 11 assists in all competitions.

As his price goes up with every game he plays, Arsenal seem even more likely to miss out on another great player.
