Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal’s potential failure to clinch Champions League football next season won’t affect transfer targets.

While Wenger hasn’t announced that he will stay at Arsenal next season, it’s looking more and more likely, with the Frenchman claiming that the club’s transfer business won’t change over the summer if the Gunners fail to finish in the top four.

This week, reported Arsenal target, Alexandre Lacazette, revealed that the next club he signs for from Lyon must be in the Champions League.

“[The team I will join] will have to be in the Champions League and play good football,” Lacazette said recently.

“Passing the ball, not just hitting it from box to box. Not kick and rush. That would not work for me.”

With Arsenal currently down in six, five points off Manchester United in fifth, it’s not looking as if the Gunners will be able to offer the striker the European football the 26-year-old wants.

However, speaking ahead of Arsenal’s clash with United, Wenger insisted that this won’t be a problem.

“I don’t think (transfer targets will change),” said Wenger.

“We will deal with it if we have to face it but at the moment we are not there. It means we focus on the same players.”

Whether Wenger stays or goes, Arsenal has to undergo a complete overhaul this summer. However, how fully they’re able to rebuild might be an issue.
