Virgil van Dijk is on his way to Chelsea according to recent reports despite showing an interest in joining Arsenal.

Arsenal were believed to be firm favourites to sign Southampton’s star, but Chelsea are now said to have made major advances in talks.

The Blues have, in addition to a transfer fee, offered 21-year-old Andreas Christiansen in order to secure the deal for Van Dijk.

The S*n reported that Arsenal have offered more than £150,000 a week to the Dutchman but the 25-year-old would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge.

Proving that Van Dijk is one of the hottest target’s in Premier League, there are also reports of interest from Manchester City and Liverpool who want to make him one of the highest earners in the club.

With Southampton losing Jose Fonte to West Ham and the inevitable departure of Virgil Van Dijk, Chelsea’s offer that includes young defender Christiansen is considered to be the most tempting.

Van Dijk made 30 appearances for Saints this season, contributing four goals and an average rating of 7.46.

His contract runs until 2022 and according to transfermarkt.com he’s valued at €25m although Southampton are looking for a fee considerably higher.

Although he’s currently sidelined by serious injury, van Dijk’s recent performances have convinced top Premier League clubs of his qualities and it remains to be seen who will prevail in this battle for a 25-year-old Dutchman.

Chelsea certainly look strong favourites.
