Arda Turan’s agent has spoken to Arsenal as a potential destination for the midfielder this summer, reports suggest.

The 30-year-old, who joined Barcelona in the summer of 2015 but was ineligible for feature until the following winter window due to their transfer ban, has only made 55 club appearances since then.

Having excelled with La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid before his surprising switch, this campaign has been a frustrating one for his progression. Plagued by troublesome injuries which have limited his opportunity for regular minutes under Luis Enrique this term, Turan has only started and completed nine league matches.

Turan is at the stage of his career where he should be playing on a weekly basis and Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have assessed where Arda’s future could lie in the coming months.

Arsenal are not the only interested club, with Serie A side Inter Milan rumoured to be monitoring his situation too. Although a lucrative move to China would benefit Barcelona given a higher transfer fee involved, the Turkish international wants to remain in Europe especially as he previously rejected a previous approach to move during the January window.

Back in March, Turan reiterated his desire to remain at Barcelona with another three years remaining on his current contract. With that in mind though, it’s likely that he’ll consider a move away if deemed surplus to requirements and with £25m the price-tag, both clubs can afford this.

Versatile with the ability to play on either wing, as well as in midfield – central and a more attacking role – he could flourish if given regular chances to impress wherever he goes. Arsenal reportedly have the upper hand in negotiations with ‘sources close to the player’ saying that a Premier League move is currently more likely.
