With the league season gradually grinding to a halt, statistical comparisons are appearing more regularly as supporters evaluate player performances and try to justify who has been better than their rivals.

In this case, it’s Gianluigi Donnarumma against Wojciech Szczesny.

Donnarumma, 18, is highly-regarded as one of the world’s best young goalkeeper and has been tipped to replace Juventus’ Buffon as Italy’s number one for a decade and beyond.

Szczesny, 27, has spent the last two seasons on-loan in Rome. Under Rudi Garcia and then Luciano Spalletti, the Poland international has managed to progress without too much media coverage focusing on his performances, allowing him time to flourish with a Roma team that seem on the cusp of something significant.

On a Reddit post last week, one Milan fan submitted some interesting statistics comparing the two goalkeepers this season.

They are the two keepers with the highest percentage of parried shots in Italy’s top division, having both played every league match this season to date for their respective sides. Szczesny (78%) slightly pips Gianluigi (77%), whilst boasting a more impressive clean sheet record with 14 to his 11 this term thus far.

They’ve both saved two spot-kicks too, trailing Empoli’s Lukasz Skorupski at the top of the rankings with four.
