Arsenal legend, Sol Campbell, spoke recently ahead of the Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid and revealed that he believes the Italian Serie A giants have a chance of avenging their defeat in the 2015 final as they have better firepower.

  • Champions League final: Juventus v Real Madrid kicks off 7:45pm, 3 June
  • Campbell believes Juventus have better chance than two years ago
  • Names former Arsenal target Higuain as deciding player

The former Gunners’ centre-back still rated Juventus’ overall chances on the night as even, but believes their resilient defence can stifle the Real Madrid attack. And with a “decisive attacker” like Gonzalo Higuain leading the line, Campbell says the Old Lady now have a “50 percent head start” than in Berlin two years ago.

June 2015 saw Juventus suffer a 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final at the Olympiastadion, Berlin.

Despite former Real Madrid forward, Alvaro Morata, who’s now returned to the La Liga side, finding the back of the net for Juve, Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Neymar’s goals for the Catalans prevented Juve from winning the prestigious trophy.

Two years later they have returned to the pinnacle of European football with a new-look side and renewed confidence.

Domestically, Juventus are solid, recently winning a sixth consecutive Serie A title. But their performances in Europe have been outstanding.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side have dispatched of the likes of Sevilla, Olympique Lyonnais, FC Porto, Barcelona and AS Monaco to reach the final in Cardiff, and Campbell’s backing the Italians to impress.

“Juventus have a 50 percent chance to go ahead,” the former centre-back told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Better than the final of Berlin with Barcelona because they have since improved.

“The decisive player? Juve has the best defenders in the world and big players, but in the end it will be a decisive attacker: Gonzalo Higuain.”
