The 21-year-old German has collected 25 appearances this season for Werder with a total game time of 1,872 minutes. He has scored 11 goals and assisted his teammates twice.

With his versatility, he’s been used in multiple positions, but looks at his most comfortable while playing on the left wing and as a centre-forward.

This season has truly been special for youngster as he also made his debut for German senior national side against Italy on 11 November 2016, and has made a total of two appearances so far, scoring three goals, all of them against San Marino.

Gnabry is well known for his dribbling abilities and holding the ball as he likes to take on his opponents while cutting inside to open up a scoring opportunity. Another of his strengths are set pieces, three of 10 goals came from free kicks.

Even though we can finally see him fulfilling his potential, there are still some significant weaknesses in his play, defensive work and concentration being the most obvious ones as the youngster often seems to drift off and neglect his defensive duties.

Alexander Nouri, Werder Bremen’s head coach and his staff have managed to utilise Gnabry and push him to develop his game, mostly by allowing him to play consistently and giving him a chance to prove his worth.

Due to Arsenal’s squad depth and competition for places in the first team, it was highly unlikely that German could have battled his way into the side as a regular, especially considering Alexis Sanchez plays in his natural position.

He left Arsenal for the chance to play regularly but there’s no doubt he would have seen more time this season than previously, especially given the length of time he was sidelined with a serious knee injury.

What the future holds is still an open question, but if this season is just a highlight of what we can expect from youngster, Arsenal may have made a huge ‘Pogba’ on this one.

Not that we didn’t know that when he left…
