Former Bayern Munich midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, reckons that Arsenal should replace Theo Walcott with 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund star, Ousmane Dembele.

  • Player signed from Rennes last year
  • Dembele’s scored 9 and assisted 20 this season
  • Hargreaves believes he has ‘superstar quality’

Ousmane Dembele signed with Dortmund from Rennes in 2016 but is already enjoying his time in the Bundesliga.

He’s been one of the German league’s stand-out players this season, scoring nine goals over all competitions and nabbing 20 assists.

Former Bundesliga midfielder, Hargreaves, who also played for both Manchester teams, reckons that the winger has ‘superstar quality’ and is surprised that Arsenal haven’t already swooped.

“Dembele at Dortmund, 19-year-old kid,” he told BT Sport.

“He’s one of the best players in the Bundesliga.

“He has superstar potential. He’s what Arsenal need.

“I’m amazed that they haven’t tried to get him.”

If the Gunners signed Dembele, his quality means that he would replace Theo Walcott in Arsenal’s squad and considering Theo’s now 28, this would pretty much signal his inevitable exit from the club.

While Dembele is young, he’s got buckets of potential. Something we used to say Theo had, before he grew older and it became apparent that he probably wouldn’t ever reach it.

Dembele’s Dortmund contracts runs out in 2021.
