Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain won Arsenal’s Player of the Month award for April and has admitted that it’s nice to know that the fans appreciate all the work that’s gone into his season.

  • Ox won fan vote by 56.7%
  • Nacho Monreal came second (27.7%) and Alexis Sanchez came third (15.6%)
  • Wing-back reveals he’s been working hard on tactical side of the game

The Ox has gone but bearing the brunt of Arsenal fans’ frustration at the beginning of the season to transforming the way he plays and adapting to a new position.

After Arsene Wenger’s switch to a 3-4-3 (or 3-4-2-1) formation, the Ox has become a wing-back, which gives him a lot of ground to cover but also allows him to dribble more, which he’s better at than running onto long passes.

Speaking about winning the fan voted award, the 23-year-old admitted that although it’s small, it’s reassuring to know that his hard work isn’t going unnoticed.

“It was a nice little achievement and it’s always really nice to see the fans appreciate the work you’ve put in,” he told Arsenal’s website.

“For me especially, with going to a new position, I’ve really tried to focus and work hard on doing the best job I can for the team.

“I’ve worked hard on that both tactically, looking off the pitch where I need to be, and then when I’m on it making sure I defend well, go forward and earn something going forward. When you’re working hard, it’s nice to see that people appreciate it.”
