Kelechi Nwakali scored his third goal of the season to help MVV Maastricht earn a 1-1 draw against SC Cambuur in the first leg of their play-off semi-final clash on Thursday evening.

The youngster started and completed the full 90 minutes in the number ten role and showed good anticipation to steer home from close-range after eight minutes, breaking the deadlock in the process. This came just seconds after a promising attack was initially thwarted by an attempted block inside the box, but the ball fell perfectly for the teenager and he made no mistake.

Watch his finish here:

The goal was his first strike since netting another opener against FC Den Bosch in the Jupiler League early last month and it’s clear that the 18-year-old is enjoying his loan experience in the Netherlands this term.

Sander van de Streek equalised shortly afterwards during a fairly even affair but one which could be decided by a moment of individual brilliance in the next encounter between the two sides.

31 appearances across all competitions, he has benefited from the regular minutes he’s played under Ron Elsen.

He’ll be hoping for another impressive individual display when they face off in the second-leg on Sunday afternoon, with promotion to the Eredivisie still a possibility.
