Nelson Vivas has unsurprisingly hit the headlines after reacting angrily to a controversial decision, before being sent to the stands during Estudiantes’ match with Boca Juniors.

The 47-year-old, who retired in 2005, complained to match officials after Juan Cavallaro was adjudged to have been fouled by goalkeeper Agustin Rossi inside the area. Shouting for a penalty which never came, the Estudiantes manager got frustrated and despite visible protests from players and other officials, stormed off after being given his marching orders.

He didn’t go quietly though. Ripping off his shirt as he stormed down the touchline into the tunnel, he drew comparisons to the Incredible Hulk for his sudden explosion of rage.

Vivas made 69 club appearances for Arsenal from 1998 to 2001, but was mainly a back-up option at full-back during his time in north London.

Vivas was dismissed from his job with Quilmes in late 2013 after footage showed he punched one of the club’s supporters seconds after they were lecturing him aggressively.

This was another instance where he had reacted poorly and club president Aníbal Fernández said: “Professionals like Vivas can’t get angry about these things, they need to be able to show level-headedness. What happened was crazy.

With this latest incident set to dominate headlines in Argentina, you can only hope that this type of outburst doesn’t occur again.
