Reports in the Daily Star have suggested that Luka Modric’s performances in recent seasons has attracted interest from other clubs including Arsenal.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been at Real Madrid for five years now and has been a consistent performer alongside a plethora of stars where he’s stamped his authority as one of the world’s best in his position.

Spanish news outlet Diario Gol also support the claim that his performances have been attracting potential suitors across Europe with a possible return to the Premier League on the cards.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are all reportedly interested in the former Tottenham midfielder’s services, though they are mindful of the fact that he will not come cheap as Real Madrid will be keen to make profit where possible.

Florentino Perez, the club’s president, is interested in signing some younger players to add new blood and generate excitement around the Bernabeú too so is open to the idea that Modric, who has made over 200 club appearances, could be offloaded for a hefty fee to give talented youngsters a chance of breaking through into the senior side.

Marco Asensio (21) and Mateo Kovacic (23) are talented midfielders who have someone like Toni Kroos behind them. It’s unlikely that James Rodríguez will remain at the club beyond this summer and Isco’s future is also uncertain. His versatility means he can play in a range of different positions across midfield and further forward in a creative-minded attacking role.

Modric is valued at around £40m but his world-class ability is not questioned – although he only signed a contract extension last October and would be happy to remain.

Given his playing style, questions over Modric’s long-term suitability for a deeper midfield role will be asked as he continues to get older, especially as he has sustained a number of hamstring and muscular problems in recent seasons which have sidelined him for months at times.

Sounds like he would fit in at Arsenal perfectly.
