German legend, Lothar Matthaus, believes that Arsenal target, Kylian Mbappe, will sign for Bayern Munich in the summer.

  • Bayern’s chief scout watching Mbappe
  • Mbappe has scored 24 goals in 38 games (all comps)
  • Bundesliga giants set to one ‘one or two’ Monaco stars
  • Wenger admits Arsenal can’t compete with richer clubs

Matthaus believes that Bayern will sign more than one of Monaco’s stars this summer, with Mbappe at the top of their list.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed interest in 18-year-old Mbappe, who’s currently taking Ligue 1 by storm. This season, the young France international has scored 24 goals and assisted 11 in 38 appearances (all comps), which is just staggering.

However, despite Arsenal’s interest, Matthaus says that Bayern have been watching the youngster and plan to sign him soon.

“I have learned that Michael Reschke, the chief scout at Bayern, was in the stadium at the Champions League match between AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund, and certainly not because of the players at Borussia Dortmund,” Matthaus told Sky Sport Deutschland.

“I would not be surprised if one or more players from Monaco play for Bayern next season.”

Mbappe has two years left on his deal at Monaco and while Wenger has admitted that he’s interested in the teenager, he has also acknowledged that it’ll be tough to lure him to north London when there are far richer clubs in the mix.

It would be hypocritical and a lie to say we’re not following him. But he’s perhaps already in the category of clubs who perhaps have more financial potential than us,” Wenger said recently.
