With the future of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez still unknown, Arsenal are in danger of losing other of key players according to multiple stories today.

According to reports, Laurent Koscielny is a target for both Manchester City and Marseille, and they are believed to have contacted Arsenal regarding the availability of Frenchman’s services.

31-year-old Koscielny is the backbone of Arsenal’s defence but consistent failure to win trophies, the Premier League being the most obvious one, the potential of winning major honours could tempt him away from the Emirates.

Marseille are slowly but firmly building a strong side capable of challenging for titles with recent the additions of Dimitri Payet and Patrice Evra. The Ligue 1 club are interested in bringing another couple of high profile players such as Koscielny and Giroud and this rumour has been brewing for a while now.

On the other side, Pep Guardiola is facing serious defensive problems at Manchester City.

John Stones was touted as a great prospect but has failed to make any considerable impact.

Vincent Kompany missed much of the season through injury again and his age is also showing.

It’s believed that Guardiola sees Laurent Koscielny as a perfect replacement for Kompany and a partner to Nicolas Otamendi to provide the team with much needed defensive stability.

As Koscielny recently signed a new deal until 2020, Arsene Wenger will surely reject any incoming bids, especially when bearing in mind that Laurent plays a crucial defensive role at Arsenal and is possibly the most important player in the current squad.

He’s proved his worth over and over again, often putting in great performances and directly ‘saving’ games with crucial tackles, interceptions and blocks.

At 31-years of age, he has great experience and a strong mentality. Losing that kind of player in defence would make things infinitely worse than they already are at Arsenal.
