Marco Verratti has been the subject of interest for Chelsea and Barcelona this summer, but should Arsenal set their stall out to sign one of the best deep-lying midfielders in the world?

Earlier this year Arsenal and Chelsea were both given a warning not to pursue Marco Verratti.

Verratti’s agent sent a message to any interested club that only a huge offer of pure gold could start negotiations with his player.

According to the reports, the Italian international was not for sale at any price and all interested clubs should be looking elsewhere.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been reportedly interested in Verratti’s services throughout last couple of months, and there were also reports of Inter Milan interest.

In last few days, reports have come of Chelsea making efforts to sign the Italian midfielder, with reported transfer bid of £55m.

Barcelona have also been mentioned in recent talks, but it doesn’t seem that the Catalans have enough interest in the player.

With Arsenal said to have held talks for Verratti in Jannuary, it would be a shame if they didn’t at least try to capture him this summer despite his agent’s warning.

The 24-year-old Italian is one of the best deep-lying playmaker’s in Europe, and would certainly bring more than enough quality and experience to the Gunners squad.
