In Sunday’s European fixtures, there were only a few Arsenal players involved for their loanee sides.

ENGLAND

Calum Chambers started, completed the full 90 minutes and scored in one of his best individual performances of the campaign.

SPAIN

Julio Pleguezuelo started and completed the full 90 minutes at centre-back for a third consecutive league fixture as Mallorca prevailed with a 3-2 win over Sevilla II in Spain’s second division.

With a handful of league matches remaining, Mallorca’s chances of avoiding relegation are slim but not impossible. Victories like these can only help boost their morale with important fixtures to come.

ITALY

Wojciech Szczesny started but his side succumbed to a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of a resurgent Lazio side.

Dusan Basta and a Balde Keita Diao brace helped seal all three points. Szczesny wasn’t helped by his defence and despite making four saves over the course of Sunday’s fixture, he conceded three.

Unsighted by both Federico Fazio and Emerson during the build-up to Keita’s first, he was close to saving the effort. Basta’s strike five minutes after the half-time interval took a wicked deflection which swerved the ball into the bottom corner, leaving him no chance.

Keita completed his brace shortly before full-time after being unselfishly teed-up by Senad Lulic. A chance he couldn’t miss from close-range, Szczesny’s dive was in vain as the shot flew into the bottom corner.

PORTUGAL

Another week with no minutes for Joel Campbell. The Costa Rican winger has only started one Liga NOS match since the start of 2017 and was not involved in Sporting’s matchday squad to face Braga during their 3-2 win. Campbell had a falling out with the club’s management and has seen his chances to feature all but withdrawn.
