According to the Daily Star, Liverpool expect to complete the signing of Fulham’s highly-rated teenager Ryan Sessegnon this summer.

The versatile full-back, who turned 17-years-old on Thursday, was expected to sign his first professional contract this month.

However, speculation has intensified as contract talks are currently on-hold until June.

Fulham lost in the play-off semi-finals against Reading in midweek and as I previously reported, manager Slavisa Jokanovic stated promotion to the Premier League would significantly boost their chances of extending Sessegnon’s current contract in west London.

It would not only deter interest in the short-term but equally increase his transfer value, especially after an impressive breakthrough season where he was awarded a place in the Championship Team of the Year last month.

Not yet a guaranteed starter, he has played regularly enough and shown promise to justify the hype surrounding his nameArsenal and Chelsea are just two of the other Premier League sides reportedly monitoring his situation but Liverpool seem to have made a formal bid of £15m.

It’s a hefty fee and one that would naturally prompt Fulham’s hierarchy to ponder negotiations, though they do not want to send a message out to rivals that they’re prepared to sell key players at the right price if offered.

Tom Cairney and Stefan Johansen are just two other players that have proven pivotal in their play-off push, so Jokanovic will be keen to retain his best if they’re to improve in their attempts at a promotion place next time around.
