Talk of Leon Goretzka leaving Schalke 04 has intensified as the 22-year-old midfielder is yet to hold talks about extending his contract that runs out in 2018.

Reports from Goal.com claim that there have not yet been any talks between the club and the player, with Arsenal and Liverpool closely watching young German for a potential summer move.

Goretzka has established himself as a regular at Schalke with 38 appearances in all competitions, and an average rating of 7.25.

The young German has adapted to play as a defensive, central and attacking midfielder, showing the versatility Arsene Wenger loves in his players so much.

His main strengths are defensive-related as he makes important tackles and interceptions before the ball even arrives in the final third. The main thing that impresses is his maturity and concentration as the 22-year-old rarely makes mistakes and is very good at holding the ball and maintaining possession.

Goretzka is also very good at going forward, as indicated by his eight goals scored and five assists.

He would certainly suit the current Arsenal squad and is definitely first team material.

With reports coming of Liverpool interest as well as clubs in Italy, Arsenal’s executives need to act quickly as this is the perfect time to bring this hot prospect to the Emirates.

Goretzka is estimated to be worth around €20 million but there is a possibility that Schalke would ask around €30 million before considering allowing him to leave.
