Henry: Anelka one of the best strikers ever

Thierry Henry reckons that former Arsenal star, Nicolas Anelka, was one of the best strikers ever.

  • Anelka retired last year
  • Scored 203 career goals
  • International was capped 69 times for France and scored 14 goals
  • Henry thinks he was one of the best ever

Anelka was at Arsenal from 1997-1999, just missing Thierry Henry’s arrival. However, the Sky Sports pundit reckons that his compatriot was one of the best strikers to ever play the game.

“The likes of Nicolas Anelka, in my eyes he’s one of the best strikers ever,” Henry told Sky Sports’ Soccer AM.

“I know people might disagree but that’s my opinion.”

While in north London, the France international carved out a name for himself, scoring 23 league goals in 65 appearances.

He won the Double with the Gunners in 1997/1998; the Champions League with Real; a title and two FA Cups with Chelsea; the Serie A title with Juventus; and the Super Lig with Fenerbahce.

The striker went on to play for the likes of Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea, scoring 203 goals over his career in all competitions.

Anelka returned from playing football last year after a short spell as Mumbai City’s player-manager.
