La Liga club Athletic Bilbao are still interested in Nacho Monreal, a player they’ve tried to sign a number of times, believing this could be the summer.

• New boss Jose Angel Ziganda is keen to reunite with the Basque defender
• The potential signing of Saed Kolasinac from Schalke could mean a departure
• Kieran Gibbs also being linked with an exit

The Daily Mail claim that new Athletic Bilbao boss Jose Angel Ziganda wants to make Monreal one of his first signings.

Ziganda coached Monreal at youth level and handed him his debut at Osasuna back in 2006.

Athletic Bilbao’s policy of signing only Basque players narrows their options considerably, and they have been monitoring Monreal’s situation for some time.

The story comes at a time when Arsenal are expected to sign Schalke defender Saed Kolasinac on a free transfer.

However, it’s likely that Kolasinac’s arrival will have more implications for Kieran Gibbs’ future than Monreal’s.

The Spaniard’s versatility has proven very useful for the club and he seems a natural option for Arsenal’s back three.

If Arsenal are to continue with a back three, it’d only make sense to keep Monreal around.
