Arsenal are believed to be interested in signing Barcelona hot prospect Oriol Busquets, a player who has been linked with Manchester United in the past.
The holding midfielder is no relation first-team player Sergio Busquets but does have a similar role on the field. The 18-year-old Spaniard has yet to break into the Catalans’ first-team and could be in search for a new club this summer as a result.
Two years ago, Arsenal made a bid for the then-16-year-old and came close to completing a deal before Busquets opted to stay at Barcelona. His contract lasts until 2018 but Arsenal aren’t giving up on the teenage and will to try and get him once more ahead of the new season.
With manager Arsene Wenger extending his contract for another two years, the club is determined to build a strong core to the squad, featuring with both young and experienced players to maintain a challenge on all fronts as well as having a future in years to come.
The likes of Jack Wilshere, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin could leave the club this summer as Arsenal undergo a major overhaul in the next two seasons. Oriol Busquets is considered one of the best players in his generation at La Masia and hsa a greater potential than the aforementioned trio.
With great work rate and physicality, he stands out among other youngsters and presents himself as a dominating force in the midfield. His technical abilities and precise passing make him a wonderful prospect for a deep-lying playmaker, and combined with the defensive work he puts in, he is definitely one for the future.
For such a young player, Busquets isn’t short on composure and is very consistent in games too. If Barcelona’s first team wasn’t already packed with top class midfielders, Busquets would stand a chance of featuring.
The competitions for places in Barcelona’s first team could play a significant factor in his future as the youngster is coming to the age where he needs to be exposed to a higher challenges than youth games. If Arsenal offer him enough playing time, the young Spaniard could be very tempted to join this summer.
