Although everything that Arsene Wenger and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have said thus far points to the 23-year-old staying at Arsenal next season, the club are reportedly still set to offer him a new deal to ward off lurking Liverpool.

With the Ox’s contract set to run out next summer, the likes of Liverpool and now apparently Everton have begun to circle.

As a result, the Times are claiming that Arsenal are set to offer the midfielder a brand new deal next week, rather than leave negotiations until the summer and running the risk of losing him weakening their position.

The report claims that the Ox has become frustrated with being moved around to different positions and he reckons Arsenal are ‘hedging their bets’ when it comes to him since they’ve not already put a new deal on the table.

The 23-year-old has said more than once that he wants to play centrally going forward. However, he’s found himself playing as a wing-back in Wenger’s experimental 3-4-3 formation.

At his age, he’s longing for stability. He’s not a young prospect anymore and he needs to crack on, which is probably hard to do when you don’t have just one position to develop in.

The Ox has been brilliant for Arsenal since Christmas. It would be a shame to lose him, especially to a rival.
