£80m well spent if Arsenal seal Belotti deal: here’s why

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Torino’s Andrea Belotti for a while now.

  • 23-year-old centre-forward leads Serie A goal-scoring charts
  • Belotti plays for Torino who are currently eighth
  • He has played 33 games for Torino scoring 27 goals, 25 of those in Serie A and two in Coppa Italia, also making 5 assists in the process.
  • His average rating is 7.68
  • Belotti has won six man of the match awards this season

An exciting player who scores goals for fun, the player could be on the move this summer if anyone meets the Italian’s asking price.

So why should Arsenal fans get excited at the prospect of signing him?

His first professional appearance came for AlbinoLeffe in Serie B, and it only took one season for Palermo to notice him and after a season on loan, Belotti signed for €2.5 million.

He struggled at Palermo to find a place in the team next to very talented Paulo Dybala, and that’s when Torino decided to take action and they signed him for €7.5 million.

Strengths

The Italian can be best described as an industrious forward. Andrea Belotti does not only contribute to his side going forward, but in defence as well. His constant movement puts pressure on opposition defenders and enables his team to push defensive lines higher.

His defensive work is nothing compared to what this talented forward can do when attacking. The 23-year-old has lead the Serie A goalscorer chart for most of the season and is hailed for his fine finishing and versatility in doing so.

Out of his 25 goals in Serie A, Belotti has scored five with his weaker left foot, 10 with his stronger right foot, and an amazing 10 headed goals.

Even though he isn’t one of the tallest players at 181 cm, his ability to leap of the ground and position himself in the perfect spot makes him a nightmare for any defender.

And he’s not only a great striker, his creative ability is also remarkable as he has created 47 chances and made 42 key passes this season. How his teammates only scored five goals from his passes is beyond me.

Weaknesses

With his ability to make quality passes and score goals while putting in great defensive work, there aren’t any specific weaknesses to point out for Belotti.

His role is to get in dangerous positions and score goals, something he does naturally and he looks better with every passing month.

The only problem in his style is that he often goes into tackles, sometimes unnecessarily and can make silly fouls. So far he’s collected five yellow cards.

Discipline is something he can work on, and something he should take care of as he matures.

What to expect?

Belotti is linked with a few clubs, Arsenal among them.

The biggest problem in this story is that Torino are believed to have set his release clause in the region of €100 million, something you’d think no club in the world would pay.

Even though he’s the leading goalscorer in Serie A, this is only his first season in which he’s truly shined and shown all his talents, however he has never failed to hit double figures since he turned 18 whatever the level.

It may be in the best interest of all parties that he remains  at Torino for one more season before making a step up to the biggest of stages in the world.
