Much like Arsenal fans everywhere, Ray Wilkins could barely contain himself on Saturday after Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil teamed up to net the Gunners’ second goal against Stoke.

  • Ozil’s scored 12 and assisted 12 this season (all comps)
  • Alexis now has 11 assists, 21 goals
  • Wilkins described passing goal as ‘absolutely exquisite’

A quick one-two between Ozil and Alexis resulted in the German slotting home a superb goal – Arsenal’s second of the afternoon and the playmaker’s eighth of the season.

Pundit and former Chelsea assistant, Wilkins, watched the goal happen live on Sky Sports and was practically salivating after seeing Ozil score.

“[That is] arguably the finest pass of the season,” Wilkins gushed.

“Ozil plays it inside, Sanchez is coming off the centre-halves.

“He picked it up and just waited for Ozil to make it those extra couple of yards.

“He threaded it through and took out four players with one pass. Absolutely exquisite.

“The finish from Ozil was equally as good.

“It was probably one of the finest footballing goals of the season.”

It was a fantastic passing goal and demonstrated what this Arsenal team – and Ozil – are capable of when they’re ‘on’.

Unfortunately, they haven’t been ‘on’ for most of the season and the 4-1 win over the Potters might be too late to have any affect on the Gunners’ top four hopes.

However, the display was definitely a positive one.

Here’s to many more.
